Male Breast Reduction: Restoring Confidence

Excessive breast tissue in men is called Gynecomastia. This can develop most commonly at puberty although it can also appear in late adulthood. Gynecomastia has many causes which include medications, drugs such as steroids or marijuana, and hormonal conditions.

In puberty, Gynecomastia especially unilateral, improves with age. If there are no medications, drugs, or hormonal conditions causing the Gynecomastia, surgery may be an option to correct the deformity.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who is a good candidate for a Male Breast Reduction?

Gynecomastia must be worked up to rule out medical conditions causing the male breast hypertrophy. If there is no cause that is identifiable, surgery may be an option.

What is the Male Breast Reduction surgery?

Gynecomastia is graded in its severity. Sometimes, there is only a mild amount of excess fat and gland underneath the nipple. As the condition worsens, there is more glandular tissue and more excessive skin.

The treatment involves Liposuction of the fat of the chest for mild cases; Liposuction and excision of glandular tissue underneath the nipple with a small incision on the bottom of the areola; and for the most severe cases, it also includes excision of skin.
